14 August, 2008 – The Hong Kong men’s table tennis team lost 3-0 to Japan this afternoon in their final group D game and it means they can no longer win a gold or a silver medal in Beijing.

The opening two singles matches were lost 3-1, while match 3, the doubles, ended in a 3-2 victory for the Japanese. Hong Kong’s team of Ko Lai-chak (高禮澤) and Li Ching (李靜) squandered 6 match points in that contest.

They won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Hong Kong : 2 May, 2008 – Hong Kong University student Christina Chan Hau-man (陳巧文) wrapped the Tibetan snow lion flag around her body and later began waving it during Beijing Olympic torch relay in Hong Kong.

Several onlookers heckled Christina Chan, shouting “What kind of Chinese are you?” and “What a shame!” In the end, she and some of the protesters were taken away against their will by the authorities via a police vehicle for their own protection.
