Hang Seng Index (恒生指數)

HONG KONG – 17 Oct., 2008 – Hong Kong’s stock market dropped amid the worsening global financial turmoil. It is the lowest point in almost three years.

The blue-chip Hang Seng Index has trimmed its losses to close down 4.8 percent. The Hang Seng Index shed 767 points to 15,230.

The Hang Seng Index (abbreviated: HSI, 恒生指數) is a freefloat-adjusted market capitalization-weighted stock market index in Hong Kong. It is used to record and monitor daily changes of the largest companies of the Hong Kong stock market and is the main indicator of the overall market performance in Hong Kong. These 45 companies represent about 67% of capitalization of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
